Why It Matters – The Cause

Boys and men across Washington are facing growing challenges that deserve attention and action.

Over the past few decades, boys and men have faced unique challenges. Statistics indicate they are falling behind in areas such as academic achievement, high school and college graduation, workforce participation, and social development.

Gender comparisons also show increasing rates of suicide, substance abuse, aggression, loneliness, and isolation. Many boys grow up without positive male role models or an encouraging father figure, while the number of single-father households needing support continues to grow.

These trends are complex and interconnected, yet relatively few resources exist to address them. WFBM seeks to help by supporting immediate individual needs, established programs, and organizations focused on improving education, physical and mental health, life skills, and vocational readiness for boys and men throughout Washington State.
